Did you know you can use soy wax in soap recipes? You definitely can, but you have to pay attention to if your soy wax is cosmetic grade. You cannot use unpure cheap wax that is meant for candle making. Look for the name Soybean, fully hydrogenated soy wax when you shop for soy wax for soap.
Soy is a very versatile bean that can be used for making milk, butter, oil, and wax. It is widely used for human and animal foods, is cheap and easy to grow. If you want to make environmentally friendly soap, look for Non-GMO Soy.
Soy Wax is a processed form of soybean oil, and on soap-recipes.com we categorize it as an oil.
What does Soy Wax do for a soap?
Soy wax is a great hardener in homemade soap, and the only tricky thing about it is that it needs to be a little warmer while you work with it. Soy wax has a height percentage of stearic acid in it, and as you may remember from the post about Stearic acid (link), this needs around 130 degrees Fahrenheit (55 degrees C) to stay liquid.
